The ten member teams of the EIHL have outlined a roadmap for a return to ice hockey.
In their latest conference call, all teams voted to approve plans for season 2020/21 which would allow for pre-season games in November, with the regular season starting with the Magic 5 Weekend on December 5th & 6th.
The regular season would end on the weekend of May 1st/2nd followed by the playoff quarterfinals and then the Playoff Finals weekend in Nottingham on May 15th/16th.
A fixtures meeting has been tentatively scheduled for the beginning of September.
EIHL Chairman Tony Smith explained:
“There are 2 factors that we need to consider with any return to play plan; 1) we need 6 to 8 weeks from the time we know we can play in order to complete our teams, get work visas in place, book flights, buy equipment, etc and 2) We need our fans. We cannot play behind closed doors or with very limited capacity, it just isn’t an option.”
All ten teams are committed to playing the 2020/21 season, although a final decision on being able to resume top-flight ice hockey games in December with crowds will be led by the guidance from the UK Government and devolved administrations.

Latest news 5th May:-
In line with Steelers season tickets that are already on sale the 2020-2021 Steelers car park season tickets are now also on sale and will be available until August 2020 (date subject to change & availability).
Tickets for those renewing their season ticket remain the same price as last year, £108 (subject to a £2.50 processing fee plus 95p postage, no postage charge for mobile), and this will cover the 25 season ticket games. In addition, as last season ended with three Steelers fixtures at the Arena still remaining there was also three unused car parking for these fixtures. As the Steelers are going to include these three remaining fixtures into all renewed season tickets we would also like to offer free car park admission to these three fixtures. Once the fixture list is produced and the Steelers confirm these specific games then the car park will also be free for these fixtures to the 2020-2021 Car Park Season Ticket Holders who renew for the forthcoming season - dates will be advised.
Please be aware that the Arena Box Office has sent out emails to all customers effected to explain the procedure, however we do not have an up to date email for all customers and due to the current lockdown procedures the Arena is unable to contact these customers until our return to the venue - please accept our apologies and we kindly ask that this message can be shared across the Steelers community.
New applications will be priced £120 (subject to fees) and include the regular 25 Season ticket games only.
To renew your Steelers Car Park Season ticket click on the FIND TICKETS button below - then select either the existing or new season tickets.
All tickets will be checked and then issued in September.
Head of SIV Live Dom Stokes would like to thank you for your continued support of the Steelers & the Arena :- “What a season we all saw play out this year. Not one of us could have ever expected or imagined the twists and turns that happened on and off the ice. From the adrenaline ride of chasing for the league title, that unbelievable Challenge Cup win a little over a month ago now and then the heart breaking and emotional abrupt end due to this terrible COVID 19 pandemic. Through it all the team at the FlyDSA Arena, SIVLive and Sheffield City Trust have been proud to be a part of this with you all.
We are now looking forward and planning, where we can and clearly where appropriate of course, for the time when we can all enjoy our ice hockey again hence the announcements we are making. At the moment however quite rightly we should all be focused on ensuring we all play our part in defeating this pandemic. We must take heed of all the government advice and we must at all costs stay safe and protect the NHS. I do however look forward to the day in the hopefully near future we can all be together at the House of Steel”.
If you have any questions for the Box Office please email email@example.com who will try to assist. At the current time and in line with the latest government advice our offices and call lines are closed so we are only able to accept online applications or correspondence via email - as such we ask that you only contact us if absolutely necessary and thank you for your patience during this very busy time - we will get back to you.
Latest news 30th April:-
The Sheffield Steelers have confirmed that the End of Season deadline for existing season ticket holders to reserve their seats has been extended until Thursday 14th May, 2020.
Operations manager Shaun Smith said, “With the offices closed and the general conditions in the Country we felt extended this date for another two weeks was fair and reasonable. We have collected all of our post from the office and we are delighted at the amount of applications already received. We have in fact already had over 200 application from NEW season ticket holders which is most encouraging.
“Please remember when returning your application forms whether you are a new or existing season ticket holder that you can do so either by post to the Steelers office, by hand to the letter box next door at the Steelers Sports Bar or by e-mailing myself firstname.lastname@example.org”.

The EIHL have held their weekly conference call and all clubs are continuing to move forward with plans for a 2020/21 season whilst monitoring scientific advice on when our buildings can open again and the league could start.
As fans are aware, the EIHL plans to launch next season with a two-day Magic 5 competition held in Nottingham where all ten clubs will play a meaningful derby game which will count towards total points in the end of season league table.
With last season’s Playoff finals cancelled, many fans have also given their support to the event by transferring their POFW tickets over to this exciting new event.
The EIHL can today confirm that they have set a very provisional date of Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th October 2020 for the Magic 5 weekend with the regular league and cup season starting the following week. Latest news 30th March:-
Elite League bosses have held a series of conference calls to discuss both the immediate and longer term future of the sport in the wake of the virus outbreak.
First and foremost the teams would like to thank fans for their patience and understanding.
The clubs cannot emphasise enough the need for everyone to stick to the guidelines, to self-isolate, to social distance themselves, to wash hands, and to make only essential journeys if any.
We want to see everyone again when the Elite League drops the puck again, whenever that may be and we’d like to remind fans the health rules are in place for a reason.
Topics discussed during the latest conference call which involved all ten clubs included the impact the early finish has caused to the league in general and the clubs in particular.
Other discussions touched on roster sizes and make-up, budgeting, the start date for next season and more. These items are scheduled for further discussion.
The league will update fans as and when firm decisions are made. Meanwhile, the clubs agreed that the players’ statistics for the prematurely ended season will stand as they were when the remaining games were cancelled.
